» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

Back when LAS published its first few keystrokes in 1998, another, more ambitious commercial startup was getting off the ground in New York. We published an interview with Insound co-found Matt Wishnow in one of our first, then monthly, updates. Last fall, in observance of the company's ten-year anniversary, we follwed up with Wishnow and the company, which had just launched the award-winning Insound 20 project, designed by Small Stakes artist Jason Munn. This year the company is putting a new spin on the concept with the INSOUND CLASSIC 10.

Launched last week for pre-orders, the new series consists of 10 designs by Brooklyn-based artist and multiple award winning designer Mike Perry, the creative hand behind the Handjob and Over and Over books. Whereas Munn's designs centered around a collection of artists from the here-and-now, Perry's series transfers his asthetic to ten "seminal punk, new wave and indie bands from the 1970s through the 1990s."

Artists in the series are old-schoolers Richard Hell & The Voidoids and The Feelies, Dean Wareham's pre-Luna icons Galaxie 500, Northwesterners Beat Happening and Sleater-Kinney, emo sires Sunny Day Real Estate and The Promise Ring, Elephant Six affiliated acts The Olivia Tremor Control and The Apples in Stereo, and of course the unforgettable Stephin Merritt outlet The Magnetic Fields.

According to Insound's plans, "the designs will be printed on premium, American Apparel t-shirts, as well as on tote bags and signed and numbered silk-screened posters. All products are limited edition and the posters are limited to just 100 copies." Orders for the Insound 10 products will ship from Insound in mid-September and are available for pre-order now. As a bonus for LAS readers (you read it here, right!?) there is an August affiliate exclusive coupon (expires September 6th) for 10% off an entire order; just enter the code "hotporridge10" during checkout.
