» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

FOURTH EDITION: TEACHING ENGLISH ON OTHER PLANETS, from THE2NDHAND's information and plea-bargain desk and the similar desks of conscientious apes across North America.

I hereby decree that I will not, under any circumstances present or, even, in the future, be intimidated by paltry, overweight managers employed by corporations even remotely related to the wide business of Insurance, be it Casualty- or Property-related.

Folks around the country: Join us. We are standing up to our bosses, who are, generally, a filthy pack of liars.

That said, Toronto-based JIM MUNROE's fine novel, ANGRY YOUNG SPACEMAN, is (finally!) being released in the US. He is touring the U.S. in honor of the fact:

Angry Young Spaceman is about a guy who goes to another planet to teach English and the various calamities that result from this act. Jim Munroe's second novel, AYS in being published by New York City's Four Walls Eight Windows and launched in twelve U.S. cities (as detailed above). Jim will be featured in the launch giving an Anthony Robbins-style recruitment seminar for an offworld teaching program, complete w/ slideshow and alien artifacts to entice potential applicants.

Munroe put out his books and 'zines for years independently, until his novel Flyboy Action Figure Comes with Gasmask was published by HarperCollins in Canada. Discomfort with Rupert Murdoch's ownership of HC led him to choose a unique route when publishing his second novel: he published AYS via his own press, No Media Kings, and sold the non-Canadian rights to like-minded press Four Walls Eight Windows this year.

The web site for his press, No Media Kings, provides a practical model for his publishing enterprise, his past work in Zines and other, newer projects, among them a new emphasis on products of 'geek' culture (Jim designs computer 'text games' in some of his spare time…Punkpoints can be played at the No Media Kings site now!).

And so, until next time (and sorry for the much-extended delay in this column's updating…we are getting along, as are we all), we love you. Stay good.
