» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

cloud town
my upward boat hovers
on cloudy high
here is my light town!
only air expanse
and broken ground
this is no Terra Firme!
pink subtleties lay softly on
cotton crop promontory
while winter-white cream coddles
tower erect, and eaves steeply slanted
main street is thick with mist
lit fire-fly style
(bereft of braggart or monarch mean)
buoyant town
percolating, they cue up
friendly folk line up only
in my cloud town
populating joyously, billfold forgotten
loose, light community
knows this town
this cloud town-
billowy boat sail-plows, prow
first to the cloud dock, willowy wharf
and wind whirled mane over broad
braided back flies
…steer that wooden keel captain!
noisy engagement, all hail this air vessel
moon o'er top high sail, lights
lantern-like march
parade-style through shady streets
cobbled in confetti with sparkler bright
flattened by my footstep merry
-this cloudy town supports no
person contrite.

noon and the politics of distance
noon. fine light
filters in through zebraflesh blinds
and only 8000 miles away
it's midnight
transposing a worldweary day's end to
a brand new calendar's square
with possibilities blossoming. a boon
to an optimist's diary?
or just another tock of the clock
Earth revolve, dark give way to light
a blend of hue not more than
a clumsy mixer's mistake
on horizon's palate.
longitude and latitude play
Ticktacktoe and Connectthedots
while sunlight reflects off the moon
and settles comfortably
on a blown rattan in warm Bora Bora
unable to understand the meaning
or comprehend the size
of the planet that cools my heels, I
twist the blinds shut and see the rails
of light eclipse.
noon now plays midnight's inky role
