» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

Staring Black Books' Tamsin Greig (that show's weak link, but few can steal a scene for Dylan Moran) and hyped as being "Zanier than Scrubs, sexier than E.R. and more eccentric than Dr. House," Green Wing has garnered praise all over jolly ol' England and is now being primed to be BBC America's next breakout cable hit. Too bad then that it is the very definition of sub-par.

Green Wing is, more or less, the British equivalent of Scrubs. An off the wall sitcom set in a hospital. Only Green Wing lacks any of the qualities that makes Scrubs the superb series that it is. No well balanced drama, clever writing, inventive quirks or talented ensemble cast to be found here. Those characteristics have been exchanged in favor of more gratuitous sexual content than Scrubs could ever dream of having (please bear in mind that isn't uncommon for Scrubs to feature various members of its cast in their undies) and a higher concentration of punch lines that always seem to fall flat, no matter how perfect the setup initially seems. The British praise for this series is utterly mind-boggling.

The tag line for the series is equally stumping. This show isn't that zany, certainly no more than a show that had its main character waking up to find the Sugar Hill Gang at his bedside. Sure, it's sexier than E.R. but that goes without saying. And 'eccentric' usually refers to something displaying qualities of being unique or possessing a crazy genius like quality. And for a show billed as 'eccentric', Green Wing is an astonishingly a by-the-numbers type of show.

Furthermore, at an hour long, Green Wing fast exceeds its welcome. BBC America is clearly hoping that Green Wing will become the channels next underground hit, following The Office's lead of two years ago. But somehow, the appeal of Green Wing has been lost in translation. You might snicker once or twice, but you probably won't remember why the next morning. Granted, there are worse shows to be found in the vast wonders of cable television, but none quite so disappointing. One could make an argument that my disappointment with Green Wing stems only from its inability to rival Scrubs in any positive area of note, but hype or no, a bad show's a bad show. No amount of British comedy awards can change that.

Green Wing airs Thursdays at 10:00 P.M. on BBC America.
