» Full Dark, No Stars - Stephen King's new novella questions mankind's ability to trust others.

» The Top 30 Albums of 2010 - Fashionably, fabulously late, our favorite music (and believe me, there was a LOT) of 2010, the year that some have called the best year for music ever. And only some of those fools work here. Plenty of usual suspects, lots of ties and a few surprises that I won't spoil, including our unexpected #1.

» Live: Surfer Blood/The Drums at Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL - Remember when Weezer used to put together records that you could sing along to and rock out to? That's what Surfer Blood's show was like!

It was only a matter of time before American Idol-esque projects hit cyberspace, but who could have known that the prized recording opportunity would carry so much cred? As of a few hours ago, all unsigned DJs, emcees, producers and bands are advised to click over to Bestmusiconcampus.com and register for a chance to join the ranks of the esteemed Definitive Jux label's roster.

In a few weeks, the powers that be (or at least the ones behind the mtvU-sponsored website) will choose 25 promising artists from the pool of entries uploaded to the website. From there, the college audience will weigh in on the music (voting begins December 19th and ends a month later) and help determine the group or individual with the most skills. The one left standing will win a one-off recording deal with Def Jux, which includes a digital EP release (okay, it's digital, but it's Def Jux - c'mon!), a video premiere on mtvU and mentoring from Mr. Lif. Lest any dropouts get the wrong idea, only unsigned hip-hop solo or group artists with at least one member enrolled at an accredited college or university are eligible. In this particular case haste does not make waste, as the registration began on Tuesday and ends on December 14th.
